Society and reality stars...end of civilization

Original post made by hoops, Mohr Park, on Nov 10, 2011

Is it just me or is anyone else worried about the state of our civilization??How can we as a society care about and enrich Kardashians,Jersey shore,Paris Hilton and the like. These people have no talent and nothing positive to offer. Are our lives so empty that we make mega millionaires out of people like Kim Kardashian who cannot sing, act, dance and has nothing of any value to say.I look at the NBA lockout and see mega millionaire athletes and owners fighting over who is going to get richer while so many people are out of work, losing their homes, etc. Are these guys clueless?I am a big basketball fan and I am disgusted by it with the state of the country and our economy. When I listen to some of the players say they are just trying to provide for their family and making 5.5 mill instead of 6 mill is going to be such a hardship....Come on.When athletes, entertainers and fake entertainers..ala Kim K...are worshiped and put on such a pedastal they quickly forget where most of them came from.We have nobody to blame but ourselves because without us they are not living in a 15,000 sq.ft mansion.

I personally have a great deal of respect for Paris Hilton. She is a kind and caring person, and she freely admits having voted for president every year since she turned 16.

I never quite understood the attraction of pro sports like basketball. People don't know the players, and the players don't know their fans and most of the players probably don't want to. The fans work themselves into a frenzy and root for their team, then the team fires its coaches, trades its players, and the next year it's an entirely different cast of characters ... yet there's the fixture of the salivating fan in the bleachers willing to spend big bucks on tickets in order to cheer on a bunch of strangers. Never made sense to me.

Oh, I guess there is the entertainment value. And there's a lot of money to be made from the sucker fans who are willing to spend sometimes close to a grand for a couple of hours of fun for the family of four. I guess if I were a player, and I knew how much money the owners were raking in, I'd want my fair share -- especially since the fans came to the arena to see me play, not the owner sitting in his luxury box. So, I dunno, I guess I don't see any problem with players making 6 mil. Still, what is more problematic for me is how the adoring fans of kim k, and paris, and kobe bryant are so easily cowed into spending their hard-earned money on such brainless entertainment.

To Larry:

Do you know her personally? How do you know she is kind and caring person? And what does having to vote since 16 have to do with anything? So what! she votes, so does a million and so other people. Do you really think any of these stars care about you or your life? I don't think so. They care about money.

I agree with the orignal post!! I am worried about our civilization.
All these shows are ridiciculous. Oh well. I don't have to watch them so, it doesn't really matter.
