FOOTHILL vs AMADOR - Football at its best this THURSDAY 11/10/11 at Foothill High School

Original post made by Carrie, Another Pleasanton neighborhood, on Nov 8, 2011

This is it, the BIG rival game the entire city waits for all season. It's the BATTLE of Pleasanton that pits the Foothill Falcons against the Amador Dons.

This year's game takes place in the land of blue and gold, at Foothill High School. Due to the holiday on Friday, the game will be held on Thursday 11/10/11 at 7pm.

On this night we will also be honoring the following seniors as they take the field one final time to go into battle as a Falcon football player:

Gabe Ballecer, Cody Connolly, Cal Dutrow, Riley Edsen, Daniel Griffith, Preston Hedrick, Jordan Johnson, Dax Kualapai-Bartelt, Barron Kim, Tyler Lahti, Ian Newbery, Tommy Paulson, Eddie Perez, Jason Silva and Justin Taylor.

Whether you bleed blue, call yourself a Don or just want to watch a great football game, we invite everyone to come out and enjoy this community event! We recommend you arrive early to get the best seats and enjoy the JV game at 4:30pm.

I so want AV to win one, but as long as Coach Sweeney is there, he'll outcoach Rick Sira every year. Even with an equal or inferior team, Foothill will win. Coach Sweeney knows every play AV will run, and when they will run it.

Time for a change....

I'm I the only one that thinks Sira needs to retire so some fresh blood can bring the Dons to life..... Not only does Sweeney know but everyone in the stands knows what play Sira will run.....

I thought the game was at Amador. Also I thought the game was Wednesday night due to the non-student attendance day on Thursday?

I find it interesting to read the criticism of Amador coach Rick Sira, if anything it looks like both schools need some fresh blood if you base your opinion only on the schools performance on the field. Amador 4-5, Foothill 3-6, in EBAL both are 2-4 having each beat Livermore and Granada while losing to the other league schools. Both teams have a rather anemic offense averaging 15 points per game with Football having a defensive advantage giving up 18 PPG while Amador gives up 24 PPG.

The real question is why either school can't field a competitive team or maybe there is more to high school football than just the won loss record. Knowing both coaches I know they are men of great character and teach their players more than just blocking and tackling and for the 15 seniors that will be recognize on Thursday night, competitive football will become a high school memory. And if all they remember is the won-loss record they will miss the most important lessons of competitive sports the discipline, teamwork and lasting friendships just to name a few.

The Foothill-Amador varsity and JV football games are tomorrow, Thursday, Nov. 10, at Foothill. JV plays at 4:30 p.m., varsity plays at 7 p.m.

The freshman football teams play tonight (Wednesday) at 5:30 at Amador.

Thursday is a staff development day at Foothill, which means no classes, but this is not impacting the football games.

Great stuff X-Don. I couldn't agree more. I know the Foothill team would agree with you based on some of the things that have gone on with in their team in this last month. Life's lessons learned by the whole team due to bad judgement at a given moment in time by a few. Rise above it all and take your bumps and move forward in the right direction. GO FALCONS!!

X-Don - no criticism of Coach Sira's character, but perhaps my complaint is with the offensive play calling - it's so predictable; we just need to mix it up a little so we'll have a chance against the Falcons. Foothill has dominated us - only 1 win in last 8 years, maybe more. I know winning isn't everything, but once in awhile would be nice.
