Great America sale could open way for 49ers stadium

The owners of the Great America theme park announced Monday the park is being sold for $70 million to a San Francisco real estate firm in a deal that will resolve a lawsuit filed two years ago by the park's operators against the city of Santa Clara.

Not really a local issue, but I work down there, so I thought I'd comment.

I see this as another nail in the coffin of Great America. I think a theme park doesn't really fit into the portfolio of JMA, and so it'll be converted into something else. Maybe it's a good thing. I'm thinking that Great America had its chance in the beginning to be a mini-Disney, but that real estate is probably more valuable as a residential/shopping area.

I agree.

Such deals are not my area of expertise, but the price strikes me as too low to express confidence on either side that the park has the kind of value that would justify keeping it open.

Does anyone know whether/not there will be any taxpayer subsizidation with the new stadium? I sure hope not.
