Thanks Roy. For 30 years you've been a friend to the animals and people of Pleasanton. You've been especially helpful to Valley Humane Society and we appreciate it. Enjoy retirement.

Great job Roy, you will be missed. Why is it that you would approach a dog from his right side rather than from is left?

Interesting, that I have never heard of him. We used to have problems with a neighbor who trained visious attack dogs in his back yard. Everytime someone in the neighborhood filed a complaint then sent out a woman to investigate (so obviously not Roy) that was a bleeding-heart animal lover that just wouldn't recoginize that one of those animals might easily rip your throat out. Her belief was that pit bulls were basically lovable animals. Finally, the police came out to investigate, and the neighbor and his attack dogs were gone shortly thereafter. Not sure where Roy was during all this grief, but the woman from animal control was clueless.

Congratulations Roy! Now that you have extra time in retirement, I can teach you how to balance a garbage can on the tailgate of a truck while driving! See you around the park.

I am guessing the comments that were removed by John and Tax Payer were more rants about how the new police chief should take a pay cut and how Officer Ficken does not deserve his retirement.

Instead of hijacking this thread, I recognize and commend Officer Roy Ficken for his well earned (and deserved) retirement after 30 years of dedication and service. Well done and thank you for the service both you and Gandalf provided for both the citizens and the animals of this community.

Geeze old friend (funny how that now has a distinctly different meaning but after 45 years or so it is certainly appropriate)- hard to believe its been 30 years. Congrats on a job well done and may everyone find as much satisfaction in their work as you did. Now please come visit and help me train the new house boss Ginger.

Congratulations to Roy from all his co-workers. Roy is a Pleasanton icon and he and his little sidekick will be sorely missed by citizens, children and co-workers alike. Have a wonderful retirement! Happy "tails."
