Bye McNutty. Maybe you can get a job at Starbucks but from what I've seen you're not qualified.
This is a sad day. So many uninformed, fanatical people in this district are willing to vote an extremist right wing conservative into Congress out of spite for the democrats. Blame, blame, blame. Don't forget, it was that moron George W. and Harmer's party who was responsible for the mess we are in right now. I'm embarrassed to be part of this Congressional district!
Molly, take heart. With the census results coming out next year and the redistricting responsibilities changing, we will be un-gerrymandered into a more geographically and geopolitically sensible district and reason will rule again the next election cycle.
Hamer? Who is that?
In my opinion, (which means little to so many,) there are two main reasons that the Dems lost the House.
1. It's pretty simple, when close to 60% of the people don't want Health Care Reform, and you vote to shove it down their throats anyway -- you're going to pay a price at the polls. They would've been better off trying to reform health care in increments, rather than the 2700 page Bill they forced on the public. And, Molly, GWBush had nothing to do with the shenanigans that occurred during the "force feeding" by the Dems of the health care reform bill. The blame for the loss of the Democrat House seats lands squarely at the feet of Mr. Obama and Ms. Pelosi.
2. The Dems squandered valuable time and resources in passing bills that were designed to implement social re-engineering theories, rather than working to get the economy back on track and restoring confidence in our government.
Not to worry Molly, the great liberal laboratory experiment known as California is still steaming towards disaster at full throttle. Choo choo!
Are you sure it's Harmer time? Looks like you might have started your victory dance a little early...
Official tally from the secretary of state with 100% precincts reporting:
David Harmer REP 82,003
Jerry McNerney DEM 82,124
Yes. You read that right. McNerney won by 121 votes. Sorry Teabaggers. You lose. It's an obvious case of voter fraud. ACORN does it again. Time to line up for that circular firing squad.
I supported Harmer. However, if McNerney wins, I'm sure he'll be able to do a better job going forward. Winning by a just few votes is certainly not a mandate of confidence from your constituency. The same mediocre vote of confidence applies to the loser.
Either way, the sun will continue to come up each day, we can still agree to disagree, and enjoy living in such a great country.
Arroyo, I like your style. Yes, let's accept what is and move forward.
I'm just hoping both sides realize we are all tired of the polarity of the parties and want them to compromise and deal with the basic issues of the economy, jobs and school. With most wins at close margins, I hope all those elected focus on cooperation rather than "my way". Otherwise, we may find the Democrats holding the House in the next election.
It looks like McNerney won by 121 votes:
It was a close race, but I am glad it is over, and I am glad Harmer did not win. Extreme candidates will never get my vote. Fiscally conservative candidates? Yes. Socially extreme? NOOOO!
Now that it is over, can someone tell me what Harmer really thinks about public education? He says his kids go to public schools, yet the 2000 article he wrote about abolishing public education is there. Anyone knows? (it did not influence my vote, but I am curious)
Has Harmer conceded? I would imagine that he might wait till Friday for the officials to count all the "by mail" ballots that were dropped off at the polls.
And a race this close is subject to an automatic recount, I believe.
Correction to my previous post:
The race is NOT over yet:
They still have to count the absentee and mail-in vote. But so far, McNerney is a head by 121 votes.
NObody has won anything yet ! At this moment it is tied 47.5 % to 47.5%. The jerk, and idiot followers who ran 3rd, just to screw things up....did ! The FRINGE just does not understand elections are about numbers, not 'sending a message'. Obviously the absentee ballots will have to be counted, then, considering the narrow margin, be REcounted ! So, relax for a few days.
District needs representing- and you believe that Harmer wouldn't have voted with Boehner every time? That other republicans won't just be his puppet as you like to say about Pelosi? The party of "NO" has work to do, actual progress.
At the moment Obama is going on and on about more green jobs. Our Representatives better understand the tri-valley decided against ugly transmission lines from solar farms. More new nuclear plants will ultimately be the savior to energy independence (some luddites know that, & that's why they won't discuss).
Stop the hypocrisy of energy 'independence'..which includes nuclear, North American petroleum of several kinds, like sands, etc. We're losing time and blocking progress with single source, narrow, tunnel vision..everything and all kinds will be necessary. CA can be a barrier or a solution (with jobs) or NOT ! Don't talk about 'independence' unless you mean it and work accordingly.
District said: "IF he's wise (no clues that he is) he'd start representing his district"
I'm a resident of District 11. And I feel McNerney has represented my interests just fine.
In fact, 82,000+ of your neighbors just voted to re-elect him, after he represented us for four years.
I don't understand what Republican leaders are thinking with vowing to reverse the health care law. What do they think that will do to help the already uncertain business climate? It's going to make things even more uncertain! We'll all be back here in two years complaining about the jobs and economy again.
This forum is good for something ;) I was wondering whether it was an automatic recount and when the "mail ins" would be counted by. Guess we have some nailbiting for a number of days.
As for the "fringe", not everyone votes because they are "trying to send a message", everyone has a right to vote for what they believe in. Maybe if more voters got off the Democrat or Republican wagon and voted for the best person for the job, we would be stuck with an "either/or"; swinging back and forth government. I personally would love a party that's middle of the road, I didn't vote for either Brown or Whitman because of that.
Uninformed Voter. Molly pleases check your facts. The subprime mortgage crisis, which began in 2007, unleashed a veritable epidemic of financial ill health all over the world. The question is who started the problem?
Clinton signed the repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act, a move which allowed Weill to create Citigroup. Fittingly, Citigroup is a major contributor to guess which Democratic Presidential candidate?
Although the 1999 law did not repeal all of the banking Act of 1933, retaining the FDIC, it did once again allow banks to enter the securities business, becoming what some term "whole banks."
As of "Last Update: Wed Nov 03 16:01:16 PDT 2010" according to Alameda Co. Representative McNerney is leading by 4,000. Check out the link.
dublinmike, that link only shows the Alameda County portion of the vote. Official results for the entire district are on the Secretary of State website: Web Link . Still at +121 for McNerney at this point.
Who is HAMER? Is that a write-in? I didn't know there was a HAMER on the ballot?
Don't miss out on the discussion!
