Homecoming at Dublin High is getting completely out of hand. Many of the students are PRESSURED into MULTIPLE activities (building floats, skits, rallies, carnival booths, dance, etc.). The result is a big distraction from academics. Many parents know that their teens grades take a hit, they become sleep deprived, and they miss learning important concepts during this time. This year, a number of students are skipping taking their PSAT tests because of homecoming activities - not a wise choice. Other districts in the Tri-Valley have toned down their homecoming activities, and it is well past time that Dublin High do likewise. Now, we have a Dublin main thoroughfare being close for the parade, inconveniencing many drivers. That action was no doubt due to Mayor Sbranti, a Dublin High teacher that is the main promoter (er, culprit) of this overblown emphasis on homecoming. As Mayor, he needs to demonstrate more responsibility and maturity in his actions - school is about learning, not about how many parties can be held under the guise of "leadership development". Its more like of "lack-of-leadership development".

This is one of the reasons I bought a house in Dublin. This city has more character and charm than any of the cities Ive previously lived in. Its great to have a mayor who is involved in both city and school functions. Its great to have the support of the community (save for Steamed Parent) and the Police Department. Keep it up!

Our child has not felt the pressure Steamed complains of, nor have I. He participated in some activities, and not others, to balance academics and school spirit.

I think the street closure has happened every year as long as I can remember.

And he's ready for his PSAT.
