All I can say is watch the documentary 'Food Inc' and that will explain it all. KQED had the show on a couple of weeks ago. It will open your eyes to the food industry, specifically the meat processing business (and no, I am not a vegitarian; I love a good medium rare Rib eye steak!).I'm now looking at grass fed beef suppliers, any suggestions?

Check out the new Main Street Meat and Fish market at the corner of Main and Spring. A bit more expensive but all of the meat is natural, sustainable, no hormones, much is grass fed and they have superb suppliers. Everything I've bought there has been great! (I saw Food Inc too and yuck...)
