isn't it obvious? Americans love arabs and hate white people. It's been going on for generations...where have you been?

politically correct judgement by the fruits who run the pageant. If she really is a muslim, she'll be a target for the hardcore muslimes when she's on world tour for the Miss Universe pageant. They don't like it much when one of their own falls off the reservation. She'll be dead or disfigured in 6 months or less.

The judges are right on the money. Miss Michigan is super hot!!! I take her any day over the trailer trash from Oklahoma. Those girls are a dime a dozen in trailer parks.

I've been told by some women friends that the Miss America pageant is demeaning to women and then the pageant people want the candidates to take pictures in their undies. Now, it's a political issue. You know, I'm happy I love football, drink beer, know that in any other country one side of the political argument would be in a concrete cell never to see the light of day. I'm truly beginning to see that having opposing views is a good thing. One more good thing: My kid told me the other day to take a CHILL PILL. What? Well, after thinking about it, I like all the women in the pageant and I like football. Now, cholo he's another matter. Just kidding cholo.

Why is it okay to call a girl trailer trash from Oklahoma?

Seems just as offensive as calling a girl ghetto trash from Oakland or the like. A comment like that would be rightfully deleted.

I'd think both should be treated equally and deleted from the comments.

The whole concept of a beauty pageant is demeaning to women and honestly the men which drool over such things. Reminds me of a livestock show except the only thing you do not get to check out is their teeth. Stop these shows.

It can be demeaning but it isn't in this case...it's clearly a victory for a pretty woman, the losers on all fours!

I agree that these kinds of contests serve no real purpose other than to allow spectators to oogle pretty girls. I do not agree however with a few things in this topic.
First off, why must people denigrate everyone, and or everything simply because it does not fit what you want, or think, or agree with. Additionally it is a silly contest which has absolutely no deeper meaning, or grand political agenda. Even if the contest organizers wanted to somehow make a bold political statement who would care? What value would such a statement have... None.
Second, "politically correct judgement by the fruits who run the pageant." Seriously? We need to use pejorative language directed at the organizers sexual orientation based upon their decision to grant the title to the lady representing Michigan.
Seriously, find something to do with your time that does not involve looking for conspiracy in each and everything that occurs in the world.

If an organization wants to host a beauty pageant, it should be exactly that a pageant. They shouldn't ask political questions that are as divisive as the ones that have been presented in recent years. Asking questions about gay marriage or immigration laws has nothing to do with the main goals of the event in the first place, nor do such questions tell you anything about the intellectual capacity of the contestants.

What is the point of asking these political questions anyway? Is it to reward contestants whose views side in with what is politically correct or popular? I wonder what the organizers would say is the reason they ask such questions. If it's to understand the contestants' intellectual abilities, why not ask them an open ended question such as "What are some of the most difficult questions the world is facing right now?" That is much more likely to illicit a response that tells you something about their mind than any of these other questions. In fact, someone could disagree completely with what is the "accepted" or "popular" opinion, but answer in support of it just to increase the chances of winning.

This beauty contest business is all about Trump. T sits his fat butt down and holds court while looking for his next mistress. He's entitled to fresh meat ever few years.

MR. T will dump his present bucket as soon as it fancies him...i rest my beauty pageant case!

Good post, Qwerty. I laughed when I saw the previus poster comment that politics doesn't enter the subjectof beauty pageants, yet for the last 2 years the organizers and judges have demanded answers to questions about local or national politics, whether it be gay marriage or illegal aliens. Yes, their questions are posed specifically to draw out the political beliefs of the contestants so they can judge them against their own slanted beliefs. Everything is poitical thses days, so thanks for validating my assertion.
Regarding the political correctness of the judeges decision, it's consistent with what we're seeing at a nationla level----the misguided belief that if we don't make muslims mad, they won't hurt us, so let's bend over backwards to make them happy, included and part of our society. Not to worry, they wouldn't hurt anyone here if they drew a cartoon depicting their messiah. And they wouldn't hurt the new Miss America because she isn't wearing a burqa like a good subservient muslim woman.

Y'all might want to get your facts straight before going off on your anti-Muslim rants. The winner from Michagen is of Arabic origin, born in Lebanon, but raised in New York attending Catholic school and church since she was a young child.
