Pete Stark to Head Ways and Means Committee

Original post made by Stan the Man on Mar 3, 2010

I just saw a new item that Rep. Pete Stark will be the temporary head of the U. S. House Ways and Means Committee, replacing Charles Rangel who is being forced to step down because of ethics charges. This is probably the most powerful committee chair position in the House. What do you think about Stark now heading the committee?

My own feelings are that it is a tragedy. In a time when this country seems on a path towards bankruptcy, the last thing we need is a tax and spend far-left-winger like Stark in such a powerful position. Also, Stark has a reputation for taking a number of outrageous postions and making outrageous statements, even making the liberals in the House uneasy. Rangel was outrageous enough, but its scary to think about what will now come out of the Ways and Means Committee. Let's all hope that this "temporary" chairmanship is very temporary.

This is a "Stark" example of what we wind up with when Committee heads are selected primarily on the basis of senority.

Great...a man with no morals being replaced by a "dip-stick". The problems in Congress are deeper than anyone can even imagine.

How old is old Pete? Got to be close to 80 by now. We need age limits on these guys. No one over 60 should be in office. Just think about the jobs it would open up. Anybody think 90 year old Robert Byrd even knows where he is?

Apparently someone changed their mind about Stark. And to no one's suprise, FoxNews doesn't report facts:

Web Link

"But then New York Rep. Pete Stark, the next most-senior member to Rangel on the panel, emerged as the favored candidate."

I think Fox got the facts right about Stark...NY or CA whats the difference? They still know he's a "dip-stick".

Even the other Democrats in Congress can't stomach the thought of Pete Stark being the Chairman of Ways and Means. He normally would have received it because of seniority, but Pelosi got too much flack from other high-ranking Democrats about Stark being a loose cannon and "explosive". Today, Stark is saying he didn't want it anyhow. Right!

Stacey, I'm not sure when you heard it on Fox News that Stark was from New York. I heard it yesterday on Fox News and they said he was from the San Francisco Bay Area.

It was on the foxnews.com article I provided the link to above. They've since corrected their mistake.
