Social Security points to ponder

Original post made by Rat Turd on Feb 11, 2010

I bet that quite a few folks do not know the specifics about Social Security.

Your Social Security

Just in case some of you young whippersnappers (& some older ones) didn't know this. It's easy to check out, if you don't believe it.
Be sure and show it to your kids. They need a little history lesson on what's what and it doesn't matter whether you are Democrat or Republican. Facts are Facts!!!

Our Social Security

Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social
Security (FICA) Program. He promised:

1.) That participation in the Program would be
Completely voluntary,

No longer Voluntary

2.) That the participants would only have to pay
1% of the first $1,400 of their annual
Incomes into the Program,

Now 7.65%

3.) That the money the participants elected to put
into the Program would be deductible from
their income for tax purposes each year,

No longer tax deductible

4.) That the money the participants put into the
independent 'Trust Fund' rather than into the
general operating fund, and therefore, would
only be used to fund the Social Security
Retirement Program, and no other
Government program, and,

Under Johnson the money was moved to

The General Fund and Spent

5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees
would never be taxed as income.

Under Clinton & Gore

Up to 85% of your Social Security can be Taxed

Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are
now receiving a Social Security check every month --
and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of
the money we paid to the Federal government to 'put
away' -- you may be interested in the following:

------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- ----

Q: Which Political Party took Social Security from the
independent 'Trust Fund' and put it into the
general fund so that Congress could spend it?

A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the democratically
controlled House and Senate.

------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --

Q: Which Political Party eliminated the income tax
deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding?

A: The Democratic Party.

------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- -----

Q: Which Political Party started taxing Social
Security annuities?

A: The Democratic Party, wit h Al Gore casting the
'tie-breaking' deciding vote as President of the
Senate, while he was Vice President of the  US

------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- -

Q: Which Political Party decided to start
annuity payments to immigrants?

A: That's right!

Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party.
immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65,
began to receive Social Security payments! The
Democratic Party gave these payments to them,
even though they never paid a dime into it!

------------ -- ------------ --------- ----- ------------ --------- ---------

After violating the original contract (FICA), the Democrats turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away!

And the worst part about it is uninformed citizens believe it!

I can't disagree with any of those statements because THEY ARE ALL TRUE. Obama is always blaming GW Bush for all of our problems...Maybe he should look at his own party because there is the answer.

Anybody that thinks one party is significantly better than the other is foolish. They both have been creating this mess for years.

Thanks for the note. Good bit of information.

And if you believe that bullpucky, I've got an elephant I'd love to sell ya.

This list of mistruths and half-truths has been circulating for years. The Social Security Administration itself was so tired of having to repeat the clarifications that they have several webpages on their **official** website devoted to explaining things to those who fall for the myths:

So, "Just in case some of you young whippersnappers (& some older ones) didn't know this. It's easy to check out, if you don't believe it." Yes, sirree, young whippersnappers AND older ones *can* check this out, if they're smart enough not to believe everything they read on this forum...

We should not even be required to give to social security, we should be allowed to invest in something of our choosing other than this if we choose. It is just another corrupt way of the government taking our hard earned money and spending it on things which they want to spend it on like, free healthcare for themselves, free banking for themselves, raises for themselves annually while everyone goes without. This people need to be taken down and judgement day is coming for all of them in November, democrat and republican alike.

Did you know if Bush had privatized Social Security, that a retiree in October of 2008 would have lost over $30,000 of their retirement savings in the downturn of the stock market.

Yeah, let's do away with Social Security, so we can have a bunch of retirees out on the streets. Brilliant!

As I read the original post it became obvious to me that it was BS when it came to the part about eliminating the SS tax as a deduction... I knew THAT wasn't true! It never was!!!

And PT Barnum clearly demonstrated that the WHOLE POST is BS!!! Every point has already been addressed on the SS government web site!

When will these Republican ideologues quit promulgating the BIG LIE? It surfaces everywhere, especially of late in the PW threads. Rat Turd lives up to his name!

Hold the phone here. I am a victim of identity theft! I am the real Rat Turd!! Someone liked my name so much they stole it. I do however believe that the government misuses our FICA for uses which it was not intended.

Will the real Rat Turd please stand up?

Government misuses our FICA? Of course they do, but that's not what the original poster was lying about. It was simply an INTERNET smear by using lies to target Democrats, the enemy of Republicans.

The bigger the lie, the more likely the public will believe it. (Goebbels, circa 1935).

I'm confused, as well. Mr. Turd was all over the posts today, posting this hard-hitting offensive and then other topics as well, and then when one posted a factual rebuttal to his original post here, he denied ever posting it, and then started in with another response objecting on a different tack?

Most confusing...

This is the real Turd! I am beginning to feel like Cholo. Everybody wants to be me. I believe government is way to big and just flushes our hard earned money. FICA money is just wasted and I resent going to work each day and seeing it wasted.

I know it's mostly accurate. There are no protections....ram thru & late say 'sorry' have to up the ante....tough, my hands are tired ! PEOPLE PAY....IF you're a worker. 'Dem POLITICIANS" expanded giving SS to others, then expanded to others, etc. NEVER FORGET FDR started it to pay benefits starting at AGE 65....because the acctuarial chart average said people died at 65. Well, today people are hooked up to an assortment of technical gadgets and replace body parts so they no longer check out at 65. Today more like 85. Today the FASTEST GROWING AGE GROUP is those over 100 !! So people collect as long or than they contributed ! ! The (campaigning) POLITICIANS were happy to promise Cost Of Living increases to keep current in receiving COL ......BUT at the SAME TIME every year Americans were LIVING LONGER !!! Did the POLITICIANS EVER SAY we increase AGE EACH & EVERY YEAR TO STAY C U R R E N T !!!! Politicians ??? ha DECEIT rules. Increases in pay should be no different than INCREASES IN AGE !!! Time for a REALITY CHECK !!! No more up to the minute pay increases UNLESS there are also honest up to the minute AGE INCREASES !! The lies & deceit must the $$$$ lies & deceit in implementy and PAYING for health care in the NEXT GENERATION....once that pay IN for 5 years...THEN start coverage...once that CUSHION is used the same pathetic depleting situation will be in health care. We have pretty much used up the LOANS from CHINA....time for us to get real about starting FOREVER programs. That's why the liars say 'pass it NOW, we'll make ADJUSTMENT LATER !!!!!! I don't THINK so !!!!!!

mostly right: your rant is nearly incomprehensible. I found that re-reading it many times to give it justice became a waste of my time. If you have a valid point to make, make it crisp and make it clear, and crystal.

frank, the fact is Soc Sec always grants C O L at the slightest little blib..... even tho frequently isn't justified for seniors.
WHY, using charts is COL granted, when AGE charts have forever been IGNORED. Why not use accturarial tables to KEEP CURRENT on AGE ??? Average age of death was 65, so FDR picked starting age of
65. As most lived to 70, why wasn't starting age adjusted to 70. When it changed to 74, why wasn't age adjustments made to start at 74. .. IF COL $$ are current, WHY aren't life spans kept current. THAT is the BIGGEST reason Soc Sec is going broke. People were only suppose to receive Soc Sec for a short period of time.....not 20 or 25 YEARS !!!!! NOT SUSTAINABLE ! ! ! ! ! You do want sustainability in everything right ???

Too deep for you (AKA mostly right). Learn to communicate! You are still incomprehensible in your rant.
