A California Highway Patrol officer suffered minor injuries when he crashed his motorcycle on state Highway 84, just east of I-680, in unincorporated Alameda County last night.
The officer, whose name wa not released, was heading east on Hwy. 84 about a mile east of 680 when a malfunction occurred in the assembly of his rear wheel at about 6:15 p.m., CHP Officer Steve Creel said. The wheel didn’t dislodge, but the incident caused the officer to lose control of the motorcycle and crash on the roadway.
The officer, who works out of the CHP’s San Jose division, was taken to ValleyCare Medical Center in Pleasanton to be treated for minor scrapes and some road rash to his hip, Creel said.
The official cause of the crash is under investigation.

My guess as a rider and motorcycle mechanic the rider likely lost control and laid down the bike. In the incident the rear wheel probably took a hit knocking the chain temsioner off, loosing the rear wheel and likely other damage. Often riders want to blaim what was damaged as an excuse of why a lone single rider accident happens. Keep him as a cop, take him off the bike. If he wants to ride as a cop he should be able to reapply in 4 years.
What ever the cause, I’m glad the rider only suffered minor injuries. Nice sympathy doods…

Perhaps it was the extra weight from the blank ticket forms he was carrying that caused him to crash? Or maybe he was going a little too fast to get to the infamous speed trap on Rt 84 just as you head down Pigeon Pass? Or maybe one of the multitude of other LE types from every conceiveable jurisdiction in every conceivable type of LE vehicle cut him off in their hast to set up their radar guns to catch the folks whose speed controls set at 55 don’t keep them under 55 just as the speed limit cuts to 50?
Either way, not to worry about the cost of repairing his bike, LE sets up at the base of the hill every day and writes tickets as easily as literally shooting fish in a barrel. They park. They aim. They start up and pull forward and pull the surprised drivers over before they even get to the bottom of the hill, riding their brakes the whole way down. With the literally thousands of tickets that have been written over the last 6 months, the deficit should be gone!
