An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 2.1 struck in Sonoma County last night, the third small quake to strike the Bay Area Sunday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The 2.1 earthquake struck shortly after 9:45 p.m. and had a depth of 2.2 miles, according to the USGS. The quake was centered two miles south-southwest of Cloverdale and 13 miles west of The Geysers.
An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 2.6 also struck in Sonoma County earlier Sunday. That temblor, which struck shortly after 2:20 p.m. and had a depth of 0.6 miles, was located two miles east of The Geysers and 13 miles east of Cloverdale, according to the USGS.
Another earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 2.6 struck about 10 minutes later in Santa Clara County. The quake struck at about 2:30 p.m. and had a depth of 3.2 miles.
It was centered five miles east-northeast of Milpitas and nine miles north-northeast of San Jose City Hall, according to the USGS.
OOOOooohhh – a 2.1 quake! So scarey! Why take the space to report on such a minor earthquake. These are a common occurence in the Geyserville area.
It would be nice to know if these quakes were along the same or different faults. I don’t mind reading reports of small (harmless) quakes, but I do want to know what fault they were on.
