$2,000,000,000,000: Thanks Harry Reid

Original post made by Ken in South Pleasanton, Downtown, on Oct 15, 2009

Thanks to Harry Reid for confirming on the Senate floor what most of us have believed all along. The currently proposed health care bill will cost at least 2 TRILLION DOLLARS. I say at least because we all know that government cost estimates err on the conservative side and that those programs tend to cost more and deliver less than promised. Don't allow your representatives in Congress to burden you and your descendents for generations to come with a debt burden that is unequalled in history. Stop the spending now, because if you don't, your taxes will be raise to pay for their misguided actions. $2,000,000,000,000 is enough to give every single man, woman, and child citizen in the US (and probably even those who aren't citizens) a stimulus check of $625 per year for 10 years. If the government wants to spend the money frivolously, put it back in our pockets so we can stimulate the economy. BUT, better yet, DON'T SPEND IT IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!

I am so glad we finally have a president with the guts to fight all these selfish, greedy right wingers and their corporate sponsors!

I sure hope Health Reform passes, and passes very soon, with a PUBLIC OPTION included. That will be the only way we will be able to find the Health Insurance Mafia that controls this industry now.

Anyone against Health Reform with a Public Option included in it must have a great coverage right now, and therefore doesn't care what uninsured people have to go through, which is a pretty typical Republican attitude.

Thank you president Obama! Keep up the good work!

Mark,

I am a registered Democrat and voted for Obama but I sure do not want this healthcare bill to pass nor am I remotely happy with what he is doing incorrectly and not getting done period

There are only so many mistakes made by the previous administration that can be fixed in a short amount of time, especially when you have people on the other side of the spectrum whose only objective is to see the president fail, nothing else.

We are the only industrialized country in the world that doesn't provide Universal health care, and this is not only shameful, but it is obscene! We are so rich and yet we have people dying needlessly because we have a health system dominated by a Monopoly that dictates greed and cold hearted policies.

If we need to save money to pay for this, we should bring back jobs we are giving open handed to China and India, and make corporations that send these jobs away responsible, we should stop throwing money away in wars, we should speed up alternative energy so we can tell the Middle East they can have their oil for dinner.

Mark,

Great comments! I should warn you that there's another poster on here that goes by the name mark as well (he usually spells it lower-case). He tends to post these nutty anti-semitic rants about the federal reserve, UN conspiracies, etc...reading your comments sent me into a fit of confusion for a few minutes...Not saying you should change your name, but maybe try "Mark, not mark" or something...:)

Mark and PT,

Pretty lofty aspirations and tell me how would you go about getting all of those jobs back from China and India and rolling back the clock? How would you stop the wars and at the same time protect the United States, How would you end the greed and those bad monopolies, how would you pay for universal healthcare with a bad and getting far worse economy?

The guy I voted for did not blame others but had the answers and could fix anything with his mantra of hope and change. I have no idea what happened to that guy. The guy we have a president is not the guy I voted for. This guy blames others for things he cannot fix, does not take blame, is the complete opposite of transparency, said he would change Washington but immediately appointed old Clinton people to his key positions. No the guy I voted for has disappeared or maybe he never existed only in words. I have been duped but never again. I have registered as an independent and will work under "once bitten and twice shy". I cannot believe what has happened and is happening to our country.

So we should hold corporations responsible for China artificially keeping their currency low, consumer's dictating their approval of decisions to outsource through their daily purchases of low cost goods in comparison to those made here, and investors demands for corporations to exceed corporate governence quarter after quarter?

.....yeah, its all the "corporations" fault. How about taking some personal accountability Mark? I would love to evaluate your purchases and review your investments and see what car(s) you drive. Let's see who's really at fault.

"China knows how to game the free market really well."

Yep, they treat workers like slaves, pay them in rice, and that is what we are forced to compete against. This is what will bring this country down, just wait.

$2 Trillion? Is that all?
Huh, we've spent that in Iraq getting nothing accomplished!!!!!!

We're rolling in reverse, and I much rather see our tax dollars spent locally (USA) than fighting for the oil men and their greed.

It's like this, the health care industry is bleeding us to death ... greed, corruption, shareholders you name it, but the people paying are the biggest losers .... let's get ObamaCare on track, and watch the insurance people scramble like the rats they are. That's worth $2 trillion alone to watch!!!

I really enjoy the sarcasm post on this thread. It's great to start the morning with a good laugh at the expense of all folks in Birdland that are so quick to spend other peoples money to inject the government into yet another service they will fail at. After all these years of watching the govt bleed taxpayers dry, why would you put your faith in them (and the politicians that are just trying for a power grab to control 1/6 of the US ecomony).

To the original poster: please supply evidence for your post. Harry Reid does not calculate estimated costs, the Congressional Budget Office does. Did THEY confirm this number?

Also, thanks to Mark and Pleasanton Parent and others for the unusually civil discussion on the PtownWeekly forum.
