Get ready for toll increases!

Original post made by Michael, Livermore, on Oct 14, 2009

Well let's see folks. Revenues are down for bridge retrofits because people using the bridges for commuting is down, because people have no jobs, so instead of trying to come up with a program our strategy wto create jobs in California the government is deciding the raise rates on the who still do have jobs and now the most special of all the car pooler will be considered for toll as well. Vote early and frequently in the next election against any and all state of California incumbents.

I am very opposed to increasing bridge tolls; however, I think it's important to clarify that there is more than one reason (reduced revenues) that they are considering it, as the article states:
"Toll authority administrators say they need a toll increase for three reasons: to pay for seismic retrofits to the Antioch and Dumbarton bridges, to offset a decline in bridge traffic and toll revenues, and to cope with the tight credit market that has made it more expensive to finance bridge operations."

With the exception of the retrofits everything is tied to our poor and getting poorer economy in this state. We have tight credit because we are a poor risk and basically bankrupt hence do loans and we have no jobs so minimal tax revenue. State government recently announced even after all of the cuts and tax increases (call them what you want but they are still more money out of our pockets) we are running an additional 1 billion dollar deficit for this year. This is before NUMMI closes early next year and takes its 50,000 statewide jobs with it. What is the answer to our economic problems in this state and when will something happen? Creative ideas and not more of the Obama and the dems to the rescue.

I know there have been toll increases on all of the bay area bridges periodically in the past 15 years. Can one correlate each of these toll increases to poor performance of the Democrats and/or the current administration? Does someone have a listing of the historical toll increases to compare?

California legislature has been in the hands of the Democrats since 1970 except for a brief period between 1995 and 1996. Toll has gone from 2 to 3 to 4 and now the considered 5 since 1990.

Are you seriously trying to correlate bridge toll increases with Democratic administrations?
Go get an education you demented neo-con.

The dems or so desperate for revenue next they will legalize pot and prostitution just so that they can tax it..........oops! already did pot. they will also try to peddle things like San Quentin or have the governator give autographs for money........oops! already did that or reduce taxes to spur investment and get money flowing in the state.............nope they would never do that.

It is ludicrous to continue to hike bridge tolls. It will eventually case people really to take public transportation and then what?!!!! Bridge Retrofit should have been in the budget (based on original revenue model). The economy is down, bridge traffic decreased... not surprisingly, the bridge toll revenue decreased... So, to wrap it up in one nice package to FOOL the uneducated PUBLIC, let's raise the toll (another TAX!) Why don't they go for the stimulus package! Politicians are very good at positioning themselves for this... so go for the stimulus package! Creates jobs and free money from the Fed! Let's not tax those who do have to use the bridges for work (and contribute to the economy!!!) to death! Wake up America! This is a ploy to raise bridge tolls! Don't get suckered in based on their logic! I do agree though eventually carpool lane should be charged a toll be it at a reduced rate because if everyone does carpool, the bridge wouldn't have the revenue it needs to even operate! Has anyone thought of that! Genius out there! If you don't have to drive that route, you don't really know what you are talking about!

Why don't you all ride BART and not pay the toll. You see, you all have options. If you don't want to pay the toll then don't. I bet most of the people blogging here do not even commute to the city, but you still want to bitch and point fingers. If you all are so smart and better than the people in gov positions now why don't you help all of us and run for office? All you republicans want to sit on your couch and blame the democrats but not do anything.

Will the last non-government state employee please turn off the lights and close the gate behind them when they leave?

I wonder how much it will be this year when I cross the bridge with my boat as last year they charged me by the axle? Might be better to launch it in Oakland and go across the bay :O(

We don't need to worry about bridge and road improvements. When the wacko voters of this state put Gov. Moonbeam back in as Governor, he will stop roads and bridges dead in their tracks as he did during his first tenure. Remember the half-finished I-680 and Hwy 101 interchange that ended abruptly in the sky when Moombeam killed it, gutted the vaunted CalTrans, and left us the CalTrans joke we have today?
