Applauding the city council

Original post made by Ivan, Kottinger Ranch, on Aug 23, 2009

I was watching the city council meeting that had a rerun on Saturday evening. I watched as the owner of the Vineyard Mobile Villa wanted to turn into condo owned. These residents of this park, who are senior sound like they are scared to death that this will happen. What happened to the city taking care of their residents...well this is what this city council did. This council are hero's in my definition. They denied the owner from doing this and are also going out on a limb going again state laws to protect these seniors. I for one applaud them and hope the city rallies behind them in this process. We all need to protect our seniors, for one day we will all become one!

There are young families that would like to live in Pleasanton in affordable housing, but are prevented from living in the villa if they have children. I see that as an unnecessary exclusion and it's my first objection. The second objection would be restricting a property owner's rights without compensating them for it. I would hope the council is looking broadly at the needs of every demographic group when it is making these decisions.

Single Mom - we need YOU on the city council. Its easy to side with the elderly (makes for a good story), but its hard to make the right decision based on everyone.

I agree life in Pleasanton is not pleasant for everyone.
But these seniors who moved into this already established "senior" mobile home park, thought they could live there without disturbance with the changing of their lives...they have raised their children, and I am sure they struggled, in their early years, some single parents, but that isn't the issue here. I agree its hard for single families to live in this economy anywhere...
The stress of the unknown...purchasing your home in 10 years, after living in it comfortably for many years, how do you budget for the unknown? Now that is stress!
