Superintendent John Casey says he'll retire next June

Original post made on Aug 20, 2009

Superintendent John Casey announced his retirement today, saying that his last day with the school district will be June 30, the end of the 2009-10 school year. He has been with the district since 2002 where he was previously superintendent at the Pajaro Valley Unified School District in Watsonville.

Is he going to relocate to the Brentwood OJ made famous or the Brentwood up here where he can pickup a foreclosure at a 1/3 of 2005 prices?

Given everything that is being cut from our kids I hope no staff time or district money will be used to acknowledge his retirement.

Isn't is easy to run away when the going gets tough?

PUSD needs leaders who are willing to bring us through this downturn, not administrators that are here only for the good times.

Goodbye Dr. Casey.

Weren't there a lot of predictions during "G" time that he would leave sooner then later?

While I don't feel he handled the measure G issue correctly (or the budget gap) I feel it would be shortsighted to allow that to overshadow the contributions he made to our excellent schools. He should be thanked for his service over the years.

I hope this time they look for an MBA rather than a public administrator. Public administrators are taught to spend a budget while MBA's are taught to look for cost efficiencies to get more with less. In these hard times we need that mindset. Not someone who wastes money on lawsuits and special elections.

We as a community should thank Dr. Casey for the work he has done over the years. Pleasanton has great schools and it is not Dr. Casey's fault the economy took a dive and the State raided our funds. I for one will keep politics out of this thread and simply say thank you and we wish you well.

What were his contributions?

How old is Dr. Casey? Is this another of those cases where some government administrator retires at 55 with full salary for the rest of their life and a golden parachute to boot?

Richard - Unfortunately yes.

Good question Stacey, can anyone tell us what were Casey's contributions?

He is another of the public sector retirees that will be double dipping soon. Numerous examples among our city and school retirees. Let us try to get a new Supdt. at a much lower salary (with lower benefits)to fit the new economic reality. Maybe we should combine the position with Livermore. We can't keep paying the old ridiculous salaries and benefits.
