Nervous Dad,
We used Guardian Driving School in Livermore and were very happy with them. The instructors were professional and after each instruction reviewed with me what they had done in the lesson and what aspects of driving I should practice with my daughter. Guardian strongly emphasized the need for responsible driving habits.

My daughter passed the DMV test with no errors, but I should tell you that by the time she took the test she had way more than the required practice hours. We had her driving everywhere - to and from the city, on 2 lane roads, all around town, and we made her practice driving in the rain.

I've heard good things about other driving schools in the area too, so I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

Good luck! I was a very nervous mom when it came to letting my daughter drive, but I noticed that a few months into her permit, I no longer had my foot pushing down on that imaginary brake!

We also used Guardian in Livermore for our son. They were great. I would highly recommend them. Yes, it is a scary time for parents. But, we all (or most) go through it. I would also recommend many hours of practice. In fact, I had my son have his permit for almost a year (6 months is the requirement) before going for his driving test. He was very prepared for his test and only got one minor error (which he disputes!). I don't think driving is something that should be rushed. My advice would be to take your time and have your child get lots of practice.
