Give Them the Tools? Give me a break!

Original post made by Ken in South Pleasanton, Downtown, on May 18, 2009

A recent radio ad in favor of the state propositions really torqued me off this weekend. It says that voting in favor of the taxation propositions on tomorrow's ballot will (paraphrased) 'give our legislators the tools they need to correct the state budget deficit'. These new tools are apparently the revenue they will borrow from future state income and rob from the coffers of other state agencies, all of which will eventually be paid back by higher taxes on everything we do in California.

The facts are that our legislators have ALWAYS had the tools they need to correctly budget the state revenues, but they have failed to use them. Instead, they are influenced by special interest groups (NOT by WE THE PEOPLE who put them there) and continue to approve entitlement legislation that cripples the future well-being of the state for generations to come. Their decisions are more often than not driven by what will get them re-elected rather than what is right for Californians.

This is our opportunity to reinforce our desire for state and local legislators to use the tools they have, gain control over the budget, and stop mortgaging our future. Even if these propositions are approved, the state will have to deal with approximately $6 billion dollars additional deficit (current state estimate that keeps increasing each time we get a new report).

Stop the insanity. VOTE NO AS MANY TIMES AS LEGAL IN TUESDAY'S ELECTION (AND THE EXPENSIVE CITY ELECTION IN JUNE) AND PUT AN END TO THE MINDLESS SPEND-AND-TAX MINDSET IN SACRAMENTO!
