In Response to a Typical Liberal Jon Stewart Comment...

Original post made by Tom, Downtown, on May 3, 2009

Recently Jon Stewart stated that Harry Truman was a war criminal for the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Soon afterward, he retracted the comment. However, for those who still believe that he was correct (including perhaps Stewart himself, tho he retracted the comment), here is an enlightening videoclip of the atomic bombings. (For those unfamiliar with Bill Whittle, he is a very accomplished journalist and founder of Whittle Communications.)

I'll bet that very few public high school history teachers provide the following perspective on that bombing. I do not have children in the Pleasanton public schools, so I would be interested to read any postings that would indicate how these bombings were justified.

Here is the clip below...

Tom, like a few others, is hoping that Republican Party does not quickly become extinct. The topic discussed was torture, ie. waterboarding - something that America thought illegal when perpetuated by other countries during WWII. The double standard applied during the Bush administration was Stewart's objection. As noted, he did retract the bombing statement. Hope Bush, Cheney, et al will retract their justification for torture. They need to hurry; the Republican Party is imploding as a direct result of such poor leadership.

Have to agree with Lisa. The problem with the Republican Party is that to get nomination, candidate must be somewhat right-wing. The candidate that wins the primary is so conservative that they have no chance to win the general election. Despite Rush & Sean, or somewhat because of them, it may be time to blow it up and start over. This is no longer the party of Lincoln; it is the party of W, Limbaugh, Hannity, Michael Steele, Ann Coulter, and Sarah Palin. Doesn't should like a party I would like to attend, let alone continue to be a member of.

Beheading is torture! Dripping water on someones head [which I do every morning] is not! Clitorectomy is torture.. wearing underwear on your head is humiliating.

What's the matter with you people.... ?

Nowhere in Tom's post did I see "waterboarding" or "Republician" mentioned yet Lisa and Janet changed the direction into a "blast Republicians" thread... This is too funny... What's the kool aid flavor today...:)

Does it really matter what Jon Stewart has to say? If so...... Oh well, never mind...

Talk to some of the American POW's from WWll, Korea, Vietnam, or Iraq if you wish to hear about torture. Just don't do it immediately after you've had a meal - you might lose it... I'd bet many would have welcomed "waterboarding" rather than what they endured...

By the way, I agree with unclehomerr...

Golly.. I think Ann Coulter is reading the Forum!

From her column today...

"Ann Coulter, in her new column at WND today, lands several solid blows on media pundits who claim "waterboarding" was a war crime for which Japan was prosecuted after World War II.

Writes Coulter: "What the Japanese did to their POWs made even the Nazis blanch. The Japanese routinely beheaded and bayoneted prisoners; forced prisoners to dig their own graves and then buried them alive; amputated prisoners' healthy arms and legs, one by one, for sport; force-fed prisoners dry rice and then filled their stomachs with water until their bowels exploded; and injected them with chemical weapons in order to observe, time and record their death throes before dumping them in mass graves...

"Meanwhile, the alleged 'torture' under the Bush administration consists of things like:

'failing to respect a Serbian national holiday'; or

'forgetting to wear plastic gloves while handling a Quran.'"

Thanks, Ann. I needed that!

unclehomerr,

Yep...

Ann Coulter's list only touched the tip of the iceburg as to the treatment our POW's endured. The survivors of Japanese POW camps resembled the survivors of the death camps in Germany...

Now that Obama is closing Gitmo, how many of you kool aid drinkers will volunteer to take in one of those "poor innocents" that will need a home...
