Will the real Jim Wolfe please show his face?

Original post made on Nov 17, 2008

Jim Wolfe, Parks and Community Services director for Pleasanton, will retire Dec. 31 so members of the Parks and Recreation Commission donned some look-alike masks to let him know there are a lot more Wolfes to replace him. Sorry gang, Susan Andrade-Wax, currently the Community Services Director for the city of Gilroy, has been hired to succeed Wolfe and she starts next Monday. Photo by Jerry Pentin

Actually, she's not the current Community Services Director in Gilroy.

She resigned last week rather than participate in Gilroy's layoff talks.

She was under fire in Gilroy for cutting popular programs without council direction and stonewalling other types of cuts to costlier programs.

Stonewalling and not taking council direction? She'll fit right in at Pleasanton City Hall!

Susan Andrade-Wax will be a wonderful addition to our Parks and Community Services department. She comes highly recommended, and beat out 160 other applicants for the job. That really says something about her, and about Pleasanton as well. We'll miss Jim Wolfe, and wish him a great retirement, and we'll always thank him for leaving Pleasanton's parks system in such great shape. Take a look around our 43 parks, and I think you'll agree they're a real asset to our town: well planned, constantly used, and amazingly well maintained. So thanks to Jim, and a warm welcome to Susan.

Actually this picture was taken by Susan Andrade-Wax. I took other shots but in this one, I'm on the far left. Susan will be a great addition to our Parks & Community Services department and shame on Timothy T for taking pot-shots over this photo and at Susan when this should be viewed as the light moment it was for our out-going Director Jim Wolfe. Jim's been a great director and I wish him well in his retirement. So kudos to Jim, great job and a big welcome to Susan!

Timothy T, I believe Jerry's point is that this is a photo, and a caption talking about the photo. It wasn't an article about the job, or the applicants, or their history. The photo shows a lighthearted moment at a city meeting. It was fun, everyone who was there enjoyed it, and your decision to use such a fun moment as a launching point for criticism and negativity was innappropriate, as is your 'learn to read' comment.

It was mentioned in the article that Andrade-Wax is the new Parks and Community Services Director, how is Timothy T. out of line to post what he knows of her past employment. He didn't mention the out-going director, photo, fun moment, or take pot-shots at anyone. He only provided a web link to the problems she had in her past employment, which is public knowledge in Gilroy.

His only problem seems to be he's not a member of the local "Good 'ol boy downtown political establishment", as shown by the criticism toward him by the two posters. If anything was inappropriate, that was.

"She comes highly recommended" by whom. From her past record, probably not the Gilroy City Council or various commissions and board members but if she partipicates in COC "mixers", she will fit right in.

"It was mentioned in the article that Andrade-Wax is the new Parks and Community Services Director, how is Timothy T. out of line to post what he knows of her past employment."

While I found it appropriate for Timothy T. to have brought attention to this, he presented what he knows as rumor. It was only until after challenged that he cited a link to a Gilroy Dispatch article mentioning some controversy surrounding this lady. It would have been less confrontational to present all the information and sources he knew up front.

Additionally, Timothy T. provided an unsupported interpretation of Andrade-Wax's departure that doesn't appear in the Gilroy Dispatch article when writing, "She resigned last week rather than participate in Gilroy's layoff talks." According to the article, she resigned because she got the job in Pleasanton, not because she was avoiding participating in layoff talks. It is a good bet that she was looking for a new job long before talks of layoffs in Gilroy.

Lastly, the statement "Stonewalling and not taking council direction? She'll fit right in at Pleasanton City Hall!" could be considered a "pot shot" against folks. The problem is because of the way Timothy T presented the information, not because he's not a part of some "Good 'ol boy downtown political establishment".

Here's some other articles I found in the Gilroy Dispatch website that mentions Andrade-Wax. Strangely, I couldn't find mention of the fireworks program that was cut by her.

On a less serious note, what I want to know is, who is the wise guy in the photo without a mask? ;)

mmm....discourse....

I apologize for not presenting the information in such a way that you may easily digest it without it disrupting your sensibilities. I will be sure to flog myself about the head and neck for my transgressions.

Stacey: Your points are well taken, but the purpose was to be confrontational, I wanted to present the information so people would ask questions.

And I'm a part of the downtown network but definitely not part of the Good ol' Boy Downtown Political Establishment. What they've done downtown is clearly broken and people are trying very, very hard to keep it that way. We need more people willing to raise some hackles and get things changed before it becomes so homogenized that not even those of us who live down there are will to hang out down there.

Timothy T doesn't know her or of her. The only things he knows is what is read in the Gilroy paper, if you can call it that,.........
