5-year-old wins chess competition

Hearst Elementary School student James Du, 5, took first place in the kindergarten division of The Northern California Chess Association's annual chess tournament held in San Jose. Du competed against 45 other kindergarten students to win the title. Known as the largest annual chess tournament west of the Rocky Mountains, the competition brought in 1,298 students in grades K-12 who competed in divisions based on age.
