Diabetes Self-Management Educational Services
San Ramon Regional Medical Center now offers a two-part educational series on Diabetes Self-Management for adults. Classes are being held monthly throughout 2013 on Saturdays or weekdays in the West Day Room in the hospital's South Building, 7777 Norris Canyon Rd., San Ramon. Part one classes: 1-4 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 12; 9 a.m.-noon, Saturday, March 9; 1-4 p.m., Wednesday, June 12; 9 a.m.-noon, Saturday, July 13; 1-4 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 3; and 9 a.m.-noon, Saturday, Nov. 9. Part two classes are: 1-4 p.m., Tuesday, April 9; 9 a.m.-noon, Saturday, May 11; 1-4 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 14; 9 a.m.-noon, Saturday, Sept. 14; 1-4 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 12; and 9 a.m.-noon, Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014. Classes will discuss the risk factors, signs and symptoms of diabetes; blood sugar monitoring; medication; healthy eating; exercise; stress management; complications; and other important topics. Formed in 2003 this group provides support and comfort to the Pleasanton families whose loved ones are deployed in the combat zones of Afghanistan and Iraq. The group has monthly meetings and other events such as "pack outs" of comfort and care items for deployed members of the armed forces. The group also sponsors the Yellow Streamer program on Main Street where streamers are displayed with the name, rank and branch of service of Pleasanton military personnel.
