Easter Sunrise service planned

Pleasanton Presbyterian Church will sponsor a public Easter sunrise service starting at 6 a.m. Sunday at Shadow Cliffs Regional Park. There is no parking fee for people attending the service. Rev. Mike Barris will deliver the message. The service will end at 7 a.m., followed by coffee and donuts. In case of rain, the service will be moved to Harvest Valley Church, 3200 Hopyard Road. Volunteers needed for film festival

Those interested in volunteering for the 10th annual California Independent Film Festival are invited to attend a meeting at 6 p.m. March 25 at Goal Line Studios, 5959 Coronado Lane. Jobs range from set up, collecting tickets and more. Contact Stephanie Petemeir at 462-6964 or

Foothill jazz band to compete in Monterey

The Jazz A band at Foothill High School was chosen from about 1,000 high school bands in the country to compete, for the second time, in the Montery Jazz Festival's "Next Generation" event from April 3 to 6. Bob Moorefiled directs Michael Czaja and Sahil Punamia on alto sax; John Holmgren, Kevin Miller and Kirk Naylor on tenor sax; Anthony DeBenedetti on baritone sax; Maxwell Mensinger, Spencer Miller, Kurt Pretzel, Jessica Saldinger and Dan Yeffa on trumpet; Jeff Buscheck, Steven DePinna, Ryan Fuerstenau, David Gruen and Sam Joda on trombone; Jonathan Lee on piano; Eugene Bang and Joe Alicea on guitar; Kyle Fujino and Sam Shieh on bass; and Tyler Brown and Eric Miller on drums.
