Harold W. Garden died July 22, 2012 at the age of 99. He was born to Joseph and Sarah Garden in Stoney Creek, Connecticut. He graduated from San Francisco State.

He was a longtime teacher at Pleasanton Grammar School, beginning his career there in the early 1940's. Garden taught 7th grade and it was his favorite grade to teach. He was a teacher and principal for 33 years. He retired as principal from the Oakland School District. Garden also was a probation officer for 8 years.

Garden loved to teach and help children and adults learn to read. He believed people should read at all times. He had a great sense of humor, and loved life. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Save Van Houten (Riverbank), grandson Joseph Crume (Germany), granddaughter Mickie Crume and great-granddaughter John Crume (Moscow, Russia).

Deegan Funeral Chapel in Escalon handled private services for the immediate family, including burial at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Escalon, CA.
