| Author Craig Smith draws upon military records, diary entries, personal interviews and his own extensive on-the-ground reporting to create a comprehensive picture of the hardships and brutalities faced by both sides of the conflict. Told in their own words, these six individuals share their captivating stories of perseverance, including their struggles in captivity and the small daily triumphs that gave them the hope to continue living.
