Amador Valley High band director named 'Teacher of Year'
Jon Grantham 'brings out the best in people' -- Pleasanton school Supt. Parvin Ahmadi

Bookmark and Share
The Pleasanton Unified School District announced yesterday that it has named Amador Valley High School band teacher Jonathan Grantham as its teacher of the year.

Grantham has been with the district for nine years.

His colleagues and parents of his students described him as an amazing teacher who instills
confidence and respect in his students. They added in making the selection that Grantham "believes in the talent and skills of his students and expects excellence from them," adding that he is compassionate and understanding and masterfully engages students.

"Mr. Grantham brings out the best in people," Ahmadi said. "Observing his students in the classroom and at competitions, there is no
doubt they take pride in what they do. Jon is a gift to public education."

Grantham's name will be submitted to the Alameda County Office of Education for the county's Teacher of The Year program.

The Amador Valley marching band has been hovering around 250 members including color guard. Mr Grantham has been impacting, in a very positive way, nearly 10% of a large high school for over ten years.

Our daughters who went through his program both became part of a team "bigger than themselves' and it helped with their maturity, self discipline and enthusiasm. Mr G has delivered great leadership and innovative programs (like the performances in London.)

Most Band Parents have said thanks to him plenty of times... now it is great to see School District recognition.

Congrats Mr Grantham!

We spent four years with Mr. Grantham, participating in his well-run, student-oriented program. You earned this Mr. Grantham!

Congratulations, Mr. Grantham. This award is totally deserved. Mr. Grantham has been the most influential teacher in the lives of both of my kids. Pleasanton and Amador are so fortunate that Mr. Grantham came here.

I am so happy to read this! Congratulations Mr. Grantham! We only recently joined the band program, but I have been so impressed. What a great role model to the students.
