Livermore cop hit by rocks thrown from railroad overcrossing
Suffers moderate head injuries in north P Street incident

Bookmark and Share
A police officer was struck in the head by large chunks of concrete and rocks thrown at him from a railroad overcrossing in Livermore early Friday morning, police said.

The officer was traveling north on North P Street at 2:28 a.m. when he reported seeing debris in the roadway underneath the railroad overpass just north of Railroad Avenue, according to police.

The officer activated his emergency lights and notified police dispatch that he was going to clear the debris from the roadway, police said.

But moments after getting out of his police vehicle, the officer requested emergency assistance because three or four people were throwing rocks and chunks of concrete at him from the overpass, according to police.

The suspects, who remain outstanding, were last seen running away west on the railroad tracks, police said.

The officer was struck in the head in the attack and suffered moderate injuries. He was taken to ValleyCare Medical Center to be treated
for his injuries and has since been released, police spokesman Officer Steve Goard said.

The officer, whose identity is being withheld, has been placed on medical leave due to his injuries, police said.

Investigators determined the chunks of concrete used in the attack were between 8 and 14 inches in size, while the rocks thrown were pieces of granite that line the railroad tracks and are about 3 inches in diameter, according to police.

Police believe the suspects planned the attack and intended to injure the officer.

Anyone with information about the suspects in the attack is urged to call Livermore police at (925) 294-7531.

Amazing how there are more comments about manure being spread then an Officer being attacked. I hope they find these idiots and tune them up before prosecution.

In light of the recent PI/Police scandal in San Ramon, I wonder if this was a random act and simply coincidental that the police officer showed up before anyone else passed by or if the perpetrators were gunning for the cops.

I doubt this has anything to do with a police scandal in a different county that occured a while ago. Probably someone who just dislikes cops or has something against LPD.

Juvenile delinquents. Throw 'em jail with real criminals and see what happens.

You can be assured that this officer will go out on disability and for a lengthy period of time. If he is over 45 he will try to retire on disability.

Well, it's a good chance to recommit ourselves to the concept of fair justice on both sides of the badge.

I bet,

I hope he retires after suing the parents of these little twerps. He earned it so let him retire with full pay and benefits...which would be your tax dollars...don't hate the players..hate the game. You should be so lucky to contribute to a community the way our Heroes do. They protect us and keep us safe and give little people like you have someone to call when your Prius gets broken into.
