| Hundreds turned out Sunday for an afternoon of family fun at the Firehouse Fling, a special event held at Lions Wayside Community Park downtown to celebrate the start of construction of the city's new Firehouse Arts Center.
In Lions Wayside, across Neal Street at Delucchi Community Park and on Railroad Avenue near the old firehouse that is being reconstructed to accommodate the arts center, children played games, rode ponies, and participated in hula hoop and pie eating contests and sack races. Adults joined in the fun with many joining their children in a cake walk on stage.
There also was food for all tastes, ranging from cotton candy and snow cones to barbecue beef lunches.
Scores of booths set up to handle the food and games were staffed by volunteers from local companies and students at Amador Valley and Foothill high schools, said Debbie Look, campaign coordinator for the Pleasanton Cultural Arts Foundation, which sponsored the event.
All proceeds from the benefit will benefit the Firehouse Arts Center Capital Campaign to support development of the center.
