Finances and district goals among topics at tonight's school board meeting
Reduction of some mitigation fees up for discussion

Money issues will once again be one of the focuses of tonight's Pleasanton school board meeting.
In addition to the report on state funding that's been an agenda item since the beginning of the state's economic meltdown, the board will also discuss funding from PPIE (Pleasanton Partnerships In Education), which has recently stepped into the role of main fundraising arm for the district. The district will also consider reducing some mitigation fees because of the economy.
The board will also discuss district goals, which were part of a discussion held at its last meeting, and are being brought back with some modifications. Those goals focus on student learning, safe schools, improving communication and budget issues, and each has a set of strategies designed to accomplish or improve each.
The meeting is set for 7 p.m. at the district offices, 4665 Bernal Avenue.

Posted by Diana, a member of the Hart Middle School community, on Oct 25, 2011 at 2:22 pm How can the District reduce developer mitigation fees when future fees are already committed to paying existing debt? Where will the district get the money to mitigate all of the new growth that the City is rezoning for? Is there room in our schools for students from new growth?
Reducing fees when our housing cap has just been overturned seems like an odd choice.

Posted by local, a resident of the Birdland neighborhood, on Oct 26, 2011 at 8:37 am I think the lack of a broadcast was deliberate. As of a couple of days ago you could not even download the board meeting agenda or packet of information. Obviously the current board and administration does not want to hear from the public. I have even contacted the board members several times on issues recently and only one board member responded.
On lowering the developer fees, that at least makes me feel good that the district does have enough money and will not be coming back to the community for more. Unless board members are working for the developers, I don't think they would lower the developer fees and then ask the public to pay more. Would they?
