| A newlywed from Pleasanton won $1 million on the California State Lottery's "The Big Spin'' show that aired Saturday, lottery officials announced.
Kris Schoonmaker, a millwright, said he intends to use some of the money to build a medical facility in the province in the Philippines where his wife is from.
"We're going to build an infirmary or medical facility in my wife's hometown," Schoonmaker said in a prepared statement. "There are 15,000 homeless kids in her province. I'm sure this is 'God's grace.'"
About $1.23 million was won on the show, lncluding $40,000 that went to Serif Cakisic, a San Jose man who works for a cable company.
Cakisic moved to the U.S. from Bosnia about eight years ago and intends to spend the money to continue supporting his parents. — Bay City News Service Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition? See a sample and sign-up for Express.

Pity there are not so many other 'Congratulation' comments on here, they're all too busy commenting on all the negative stuff. It's great to hear something like this happening to somebody in our own town.
