| A 55-year-old Pleasanton woman is still listed in critical condition this evening after she was struck by a car while crossing First Street at Neal Street downtown Thursday morning, police said.
The accident occurred at about 10:15 a.m. when a gold Mercedez SUV made a left turn from eastbound Neal Street, colliding with the woman, according to police.
The woman was transported to Eden Trauma Center in Castro Valley, where she remains critical.
The driver of the SUV was a 54-year-old woman who works in Pleasanton and lives in San Francisco.
Police say it's too early in the investigation to determine the cause of the collision, adding that neither alcohol nor drugs appear to have been a factor.
Witnesses are encouraged to contact the lead investigator, Officer Glen Cornell, at 931-5100, referring to Case No. 08-24422. Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition? See a sample and sign-up for Express.

Posted by Mary, a resident of the Another Pleasanton neighborhood neighborhood, on May 27, 2008 at 7:28 am I sure hope that the woman who was seriously injured is doing all right. Is there any update on this story?
I also found the headline odd, stating the story line as if the woman had collided with the car. Isn't that odd? It sounds as if she, on foot, ran into the car and caused the accident. I'm fairly sure that couldn't be the case.
