The Pleasanton Downtown Association is joining forces with the Pleasanton Weekly, the city of Pleasanton and the Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce to promote to residents the value of shopping locally and to create a powerful website with information on all local businesses.
Laura Olson, the PDA's executive director, said that any business with a physical address in Pleasanton is eligible to participate in the program, which is free and includes a business listing and many other free marketing tools.
"Businesses can link to their website, upload photos, make offers, promote sales and events, sell online gift certificates, offer coupons and receive and respond to customer comments," she said. "A unique news feed shows what other Pleasanton businesses are doing on the site."
ShopPleasanton.com will launch to the public in March with extensive promotion in the Weekly, which will give it unique and high visibility within the community.
"So make sure you get your business activated and start taking advantage of this new service," Olson said in a message to PDA members. "Just go to ShopPleasanton.com and click on 'Add Your Business.'"Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition? See a sample and sign-up for Express.

Posted by Shopper, a resident of the Del Prado neighborhood, on Feb 15, 2011 at 10:56 pm My family always goes to the Baskin Robbins in Pleasanton off Rosewood. We were disappointed to learn yesterday that they do not honor the buy one/get one free coupon that comes in our mailbox. The nice gal working saw me holding the coupon and kindly informed me that her manager decided not to honor just that coupon. The others were fine, but not that one. While we appreciated her telling us before we ordered, we decided to leave. We drove straight to the Dublin Baskin Robbins, where it was packed, crowded, with another great worker. He happily took the coupon and when we told him our story, told us to come there as a first choice instead of the other one. Sadly, we will switch to Dublin instead of staying in Pleasanton for our Baskin Robbins 31 ice cream!

Posted by Coupons & discounts drive me to stores, a resident of the Downtown neighborhood, on Feb 16, 2011 at 12:31 pm You know who gets my business? Those that effectively market to me through discounts and coupons. It seems like Dublin and Livermore small businesses take this more seriously than Pleasanton. Even the great Starbucks, who didn't dare to offer discounts or promotions, changed their tune last year with loyalty programs and discount offerings.
Those places that sell their discounted gift cards at Costco-you get my business. Those places that have little coupons on the flyers that are delivered to my house-I keep those flyers and come to your business. Those places that donate to my favorite charity or support the school programs with discounted scrip-you get my business. Those places that have fun loyalty progams-you get my business. Those places that send me an email about a freebie-you get me to walk into your store and purchase something along with my freebie.
And bottom line: If you are offering a service or product I need at a fair price with a little discount for me, you get my business.
This is the new game in town folks.
