City offers relief from the heat
Cooling Center will be open from noon-9 p.m.

The city of Pleasanton is activating its public Cooling Center for those seeking relief from the heat as temperatures rise past the century mark today.

The Pleasanton Senior Center at 5353 Sunol Blvd. is the primary Cooling Center location and will be open from noon until 9 p.m. today, Sept. 28, according to city officials. Visitors will enjoy air-conditioned facilities and may be served water and offered games and/or television viewing at the Senior Center.

Free transportation will be provided through Pleasanton Paratransit Service to any Cooling Center location for those ages 60 and older or ADA qualified. Call 931-5365 to arrange a ride and advise the dispatcher that you would like a ride to a Cooling Center.

Danville is experiencing power outages downtown and in its town offices off El Cerro Boulevard although PG&E is reporting no outages for Pleasanton. Castro Valley power was out for several hours on Friday evening.

Pleasanton and the Tri-Valley are expected to see temperatures as high as 107 degrees by mid-day today, far surpassing the record high of 102 degrees for this date set at the Livermore Airport in 1958.

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District issued its fourth consecutive Spare the Air Day for today in anticipation of high temperatures.
