UPDATE: Canceled joint dance will not be rescheduled
Student arrested over threats, reimbursements will be given

Bookmark and Share
After threats canceled the long-planed joint high school dance last Friday, the leadership classes that organized the events decided not to reschedule and to issue reimbursements.

According to police, the threat involved more than one person and was not specifically related to the long-planned, non-formal dance for juniors and seniors of both Pleasanton high schools scheduled Friday night at Foothill High.

Several parents are reportedly upset, although public information officer Myla Grasso said she has not received any calls about the cancellation.

"We always put student safety first," she said. "Just because of the point of where we were at in the investigation, we made the decision to cancel the event."

Lt. Mark Senkle of the Pleasanton Police Department said that the event wasn't specifically targeted in the treats, rather several students who planned to attend the dance were.

Police said they would withhold identifying information for the juvenile arrested and specifics regarding the threats.

"In today's environment, with any inkling of a threat, you have to take it seriously," he said. "It's our responsibility to protect."

Grasso added that the threats had nothing to do with a school rivalry.

"An auto-dialer message was sent out, and staff was present at the school to inform any students who arrived of the cancellation," she added. "Additional available information regarding this incident, along with any rescheduling of the dance, will be distributed next week."
