Police find car thief suspect hiding in garbage bag
2 seized after afternoon vehicle theft on Main Street
|
| A man who allegedly stole a vehicle then ran away when officers approached him was found hiding inside a plastic trash can Friday in Pleasanton, Sgt. Pat Walsh said today.
Police responded to reports of a vehicle theft on Main Street around 1:45 p.m. and found two suspects inside the vehicle on Vineyard Avenue, about half a mile away from where the vehicle was reportedly stolen, according to Walsh.
Justin Spinelli, the 23-year-old man driving the suspected stolen vehicle, remained inside the vehicle when police approached, Walsh said.
However, 36-year-old Armand Smith dashed from the passenger seat of the vehicle to a nearby housing complex, according to Walsh.
Police barricaded the area and used a canine to locate Smith, who was tucked inside a plastic trash can outside the housing complex, Walsh said.
Smith was arrested for burglary and resisting arrest, and Spinelli was arrested for burglary, violation of probation and driving with a suspended license, according to Walsh.

I'm glad the police found him, but it sounds like something out of a cops/robbers movie.
