Local dietician joins Walk to Wellness today -- New Year's Eve
Third annual event takes place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the sports park
|
Dietician Jill Daniels joins "Mr. Pedometer" W. Ron Sutton and others as they walk to wellness from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today for Sutton's annual New Year's Eve walk.
Daniels and Sutton will lead a group walk, starting at 11:20 a.m. and 12 p.m. respectively, around the Pleasanton Sports Park, at Parkside Drive and Hopyard Road, as a part of the third annual World Walk to Wellness.
The event is free, but voluntary donations may be made to Pleasanton Partnerships in Education (PPIE) and funds will be matched, up to $20 per participant, by business sponsor and pedometer manufacturer ACCUSPLIT. Over the past two years, this event has raised more than $3,600 for Pleasanton schools' wellness plans. The school with the highest percentage of participation will receive an additional $100 towards their wellness plan. For each dollar donated to PPIE, contributors will be given tickets for a series of door prizes and drawings will take place at 11:45 a.m.
Individuals and groups can walk around the park at any time. Paths are paved, suitable for baby strollers or wheelchairs. Dogs on leash are also welcome.
