Caltrans to close Bay Bridge lanes daily for inspections
Closures to occur in off-peak hours, only on westbound upper deck

Share
Caltrans officials have announced that they will close various lanes of traffic on the upper deck of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge in order to monitor eyebar repairs completed last month.

The far left lane of westbound bridge traffic will be closed daily from Monday through Friday between 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. until Friday, according to Caltrans spokeswoman Lauren Wonder.

Additionally, two lanes are slated for closure on the upper deck during weekends between 11 p.m. Fridays and 7 a.m. Saturdays, and between 11 p.m. Saturdays and 9 a.m. Sundays.

The weekend closures, which will alternate between two left lanes and two right lanes, will be in place indefinitely until a long-term solution to the problem of the temporary eyebar repair is completed, according to Wonder.

Caltrans crews are scheduling the closures in order to inspect and monitor the stability and security of repairs that came undone Oct. 27 and closed the bridge to all traffic for six days.

Delays are to be expected during inspection closures, according to Wonder, who advised motorists to allow extra time or take alternate routes.

Eastbound traffic should not be affected.
