Kane family dedicates $650,000 Marilyn Kane Trail in Bernal Community Park
'Sandwich board lady' influenced decision to preserve open space concept for public park

| The 1.1-mile Marilyn Kane Trail was dedicated Saturday with more than 70 turning out for a city-sponsored ceremony to congratulate Jim Kane and the couple's three children and their families for the $650,000 contribution to develop and build the trail as a lasting memorial.
Marilyn Kane, who died two years ago of cancer, was remembered affectionately as the "sandwich board lady," the enthusiastic environmentally-focused individual who probably had more influence than anyone on the City Council's decision to develop the Bernal property where the trail is located as a public park.
Along with Jim Kane were the couple's sons Bruce and Tom Kane and daughter Lisa Kane Walsh, and three of the couple's seven granddaughters. The Pleasanton City Council, which accepted the contribution last year, also attended the dedication ceremony along with many who knew Marilyn Kane and worked with Jim Kane to design and build the trail that skirts the Arroyo de la Laguna.

Posted by Ann Pfaff-Doss, a resident of the Val Vista neighborhood, on Oct 27, 2009 at 3:44 pm After years of seeing most of the good pleasure bike ride routes disappear, it was a pleasure to discover this little jewel of a trail. It is not only a lovely ride, but it also has connections to other roads and so and can be used as an off-street route. It also has several off-trail openings where you can stop and explore. Nice and flat, it is a good trail for strolling as well as biking.

I found out about it in the Pleasanton Weekly, the only local paper we get! The trail is incredible! What a generous family to sponsor and finance this gem...thank you, thank you!
