Motorists traveling between the Tri-Valley and the Brentwood/Oakley area will want to avoid Vasco Road for today and the weekend.

Alameda County has closed is portion of Vasco Road to traffic to allow construction crews to build a new and realigned roadway segment as part of the Vasco Road Safety Project. The complete road shutdown is necessary because construction work includes removing large rocks.

The particular section of Vasco that will be closed off is from north of Republic Landfill Drive to south of the entrance to the Los Vaqueros Reservoir.

Vasco will reopen to the public at 6 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2, according to county officials.

The county has released an alternative route to take in the meantime.

For those heading northbound on Vasco, continue eastbound on Interstate 580 toward Tracy, merge into Eastbound Interstate 205, exit at Mountain House Parkway and continue northbound, turn left onto Byron Road/Highway, turn left onto Camino Diablo Road, which intersects with Vasco Road. Southbound Vasco users should use the directions backwards to those aforementioned.
