Fremont councilman Wieckowski to seek 20th Assembly District seat
Pleasanton's Councilwoman Cook-Kallio endorses possible successor to Torrico

Fremont City Councilman Bob Wieckowski will launch his campaign for the 20th District State Assembly seat May 21 to succeed Assembly Majority Leader Alberto Torrico (D-20th) who will be termed out in November 2010.

The 20th District includes about 40 percent of Pleasanton in an area east and southeast of downtown.

"It is with great enthusiasm and excitement that I announce my intentions to run for the California State Assembly," Wieckowski said. "Although the election for our 20th Assembly District is not until 2010, I am reaching out to my friends and supporters to invite you to a reception to kick off my campaign, and to hear about the innovative platform I plan to run on."

Pleasanton Councilwoman Cheryl Cook-Kallio, a Fremont high school teacher, will join other Wieckowski supporters at the launch rally, to be held from 6-8 p.m. in the Mission Room of the Olive Hyde Guild, 123 Washington Blvd., Fremont.

The event will be hosted by Torrico and other campaign co-chairs Alameda County Supervisor Scott Haggerty, Fremont Mayor Bob Wasserman and former State Senator Liz Figueroa.

Wieckowski was re-elected last Nov. 4 to a second term on the Fremont council with 31,037 votes, or 27.27 percent of the total votes cast for the council position.

"I wanted you all to know that I am supporting Bob in his bid for the 20th Assembly District," said Cook-Kallio, who is vice-mayor of Pleasanton. "This event will give you a chance to hear Bob's plans for the future while enjoying a great evening to share with friends."

I have known Bob Wieckowski since he was a youngster. I worked for his father for over 40 years. He is a fine young man from an outstanding family. I have followed his political career for the past few years and feel he is an energetic and honest young man. I feel he would be a great asset to the State Assembly.

I too know Bob and his great family, and I wish him the best of luck in this campaign.
