Alameda County tax officials are reminding property owners that the second installment of their 2008-09 property taxes, unless already paid in full, is due Monday, Feb. 2.

If not paid by Friday, April 10, a delinquent penalty of 10 percent plus an additional $10 delinquent fee will be assessed.

The taxes can be paid through the Internet with a bank draft or by credit card. For more information, call (510) 272-6800 or sign on to the tax payment website at www.acgov.org.

The due date on tax bills means no more than the "due on presentation" date on some other bills. The date that matters is 4/10. There is no reason anyone should pay this bill more than a week before the TRUE due date of 4/10.

Bob -- Thank you for the clarification. I thought I was losing my mind when I read the original post so I just pulled the bill. Late fees are not applicable until 4-10-09, so we all may as well earn the interest before yanking it out of our savings to pay them.

I might add another great example of sensationalized article titles so very in style for the Pleasanton Weekly.
