Several thousand players, coaches and parents turned out Saturday for the opening day of the Pleasanton Little League's 2013 season.

The Pleasanton Girls Softball League has scheduled its opening day for next Saturday, March 16.

The first opening day ceremony was held on the Bernal Community Park field off Valley Avenue with the Foothill Little League hosting community leaders before starting a full day of games.

Tossing out the symbolic first pitches were Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-Dublin), Pleasanton Vice Mayor Cheryl Cook-Kallio, school board president Jeff Bowser and retired pro-baseball player Greg Jeffries.

Togo's provided box lunches at the snack bar for $5, with lunch free to Little League players.

The Pleasanton National League held its opening day ceremonies at Sports Park. League President Daryn Oxe and its vice president Brian Pearce participated, joined by the Oakland A's mascot Stomper.

The Pleasanton American League held its opening day "Jamboree" last Saturday and began its regular season Saturday in Sports Park.

The Pleasanton Girls Softball League was at Stanford University Sunday where it was selected to participate in Stanford's league appreciation day. The first 100 PGSL players who signed up for the event were able to go on the field prior to the game to talk with current Stanford softball team members.

YES! Daryn did a great job with opening day. For my son's game, they had an MLB all-star style introduction and they let one of our player's sister sing the national anthem! Way to go PNLL!!!!
