 | Four decades of soccer players from Pleasanton schools will be playing in the 10th Ryan Gordon Foothill-Amador Alumni Soccer Games on Saturday, Jan. 5. A game at noon will feature women, and another at 2 p.m. is for men, all soccer players from the '70s, '80s, '90s and 2000s.
The games have become an annual event that benefits the soccer programs at Foothill and Amador. Tickets are $8 adults and $5 students, and all gate receipts and snack bar proceeds go directly to the programs.
The teams will be playing for trophies that go to the schools of the winners each year. Games during the first nine years featured victorious teams from both Amador and Foothill.
Ryan Gordon was a 2003 graduate of Foothill High School who was killed in a boating accident shortly after graduating. He played soccer at Foothill for four years and was planning on attending Santa Barbara City College where he planned to continue playing soccer.
The original Alumni Games were organized to fund a scholarship that benefits a graduating member of the Foothill women's or men's soccer team who aspire to play soccer in college. Since the first year all proceeds now go directly to the men's and women's soccer programs at the two high schools.
To register to play, send $20 (checks payable to RGSF) along with name, email address, high school team, year of graduation, and whether male or female to Curt Gordon, 205 Heritage Lane, Pleasanton 94566. Registration is also accepted at All Star Sports, 3037A Hopyard Road in Pleasanton.
After the games, a party will be held at the Hop Yard Alehouse at 4:30 p.m. Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition? See a sample and sign-up for Express.

Posted by Jess, a resident of the Parkside neighborhood, on Dec 5, 2012 at 2:24 am I can't believe it's been ten years already. I look so forward to this event-- The game is a pleasant reminder of how great it feels to come together to celebrate one good cause, and to reflect on memories of a friend who was taken too soon. It's awesome to witness what the memory of one individual can accomplish. Ryan Gordon's spirit will forever live on within this community. Cheers.
