S.F mayor, Nancy Pelosi make bets with their Detroit counterparts that Giants will win World Series
Both off to a good start after last night's crushing victory over Tigers

Another San Francisco politician, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, is placing a bet with colleagues in Detroit over the World Series after Mayor Ed Lee earlier Wednesday bet that city's mayor while also engaging in some good-natured trash-talking.
Pelosi made the wager with four of her Democratic colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives over whether the San Francisco Giants or Detroit Tigers will win the World Series, which started Wednesday evening at AT&T Park.
If the Giants win, Congressmen John Dingell, John Conyers, Sandy Levin and Hansen Clarke -- all of whom represent the Detroit area -- will have to send Pelosi delicacies from their home city, including chocolate and other foods.
But if the Tigers take the title, Pelosi will have to send the Detroit congressmen some chocolate from Ghirardelli, TCHO and See's Candies.
"Detroit may be known for its Motown music, but Tigers fans will only be singing the blues while the Giants faithful celebrate our World Series victory," Pelosi said in a statement.
Clarke countered that he and his Detroit colleagues would "graciously accept her offer of delicious San Francisco chocolates, which will be an excellent complement to the sweet taste of victory."
The bet comes after Lee and Detroit Mayor David Bing also agreed on a bet in which the losing mayor will travel to the winner's city and participate in a day of community service and tour businesses there.
Lee issued a statement noting the Giants' impressive comebacks to win three straight elimination games in both the National League Division Series and Championship Series to make the World Series as well as the recent revival of Detroit's automobile industry.
"The San Francisco Giants are truly the comeback kids -- this team never quits," Lee said. "The city of Detroit also has a reputation for making
an impressive comeback, although I fear I won't get to see this firsthand, as the Giants are bound to win the World Series."
Bing responded, "The Giants have had great success, but we've already proven we can handle any team out of the Bay Area" -- a reference to
the Tigers' triumph over the Oakland A's in the American League Division Series earlier this month.
The Giants took Game 1 of the World Series Wednesday 8-3. Game 2 is scheduled for today at AT&T Park.Dan McMenamin, Bay City News — Bay City News Service Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition? See a sample and sign-up for Express.
