Temperature could reach 103 degrees today in Pleasanton, Tri-Valley
Another Spare the Air day called for Monday

Bookmark and Share
Air quality in Pleasanton and the Tri-Valley today is forecast to reach unhealthy levels for a third day in a row, prompting another Spare the Air alert for Monday, according to Bay Area air quality officials.

The alert, issued by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, means that air quality is expected to be poor and residents are advised to reduce driving and avoid outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day.

An alert was already in effect over the weekend. Monday's Spare the Air alert is the tenth of 2012.

Residents are asked to avoid driving on Spare the Air days and find alternate transit options, including biking, carpooling or taking public transit.

Monday's temperatures are forecast to reach as high as 103 degrees by mid-afternoon today in Pleasanton and throughout the Tri-Valley, but only into the mid 70s in San Francisco and along the coast, according to the National Weather Service.

I agree with the first person to post a comment: why is there no mention of any "cooling center" in this story? Is the city not providing one for this heat wave for the seniors and other at-risk residents? Were there cutbacks? Or did the article neglect to include this vital information? Past PW references to the cooling center activation have been:
