The University of California at Berkeley community will hold a moment of silence at today's home football game for slain U.S. Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens.

Stevens, 52, was killed with three other Americans in an attack at the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, on Sept. 11.

According to the state Department, Stevens had been serving as an American envoy to Libya since May.

A moment of silence will be observed for Stevens at the 1 p.m. game against Arizona State University at the California Memorial Stadium on campus.

Stevens Bay Area ties included attending Piedmont High School and graduating in the class of 1978, and going to UC Berkeley where he received a bachelor's degree in history in 1982.

His father, mother and stepfather also attended UC Berkeley, university officials said.

Following a stint in Morocco with the Peace Corps after his college graduation, Stevens received his doctorate from the University of California Hastings College of the Law in 1989.

The campus has also set up a memorial fund for the ambassador. Donations for the J. Christopher Stevens Memorial Fund can be made through the website givetocal.berkeley.edu or mailed to the J. Christopher Stevens Memorial Fund c/o University Relations, 2080 Addison St., University of California, Berkeley, CA, 94720.
