Pleasanton school board to consider pay hikes for employees tonight

The Pleasanton School Board will consider pay increases for employees at its meeting tonight.

The board will hold three public hearings and vote on proposed pay hikes for its two unions and management. Tentative agreements with the teachers union and the school employees union would give all members a 1% pay increase beginning in July. Management would receive an equal pay increase.

The school board will also consider a calendar for the upcoming school year.

A proposed calendar would start the 2014-15 year on Aug. 25 and end June 12. The board has also been exploring other options for the future that could include a longer year with longer breaks for winter and spring.

The board is also set to discuss its legal counsel as part of a yearly evaluation. The district employs four firms at rates that range from $175 per hour for an associate to $250 an hour for work provided by a partner.

As part of its consent agenda, the board is expected to approve $3,600 a year to support Leadership Pleasanton, a program to develop community leaders.

In past years, the leadership group, co-sponsored by the Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce and the city of Pleasanton, offered spots to school district employees for free.

The open portion of the meeting begins a 7 p.m in the district’s board room, 4665 Bernal Ave.

At its closed session, which begins at 5 p.m., the board will consider the discipline, release or dismissal of a public employee, discuss the two tentative union agreements and consider potential litigation in one case.
