'Shop for a Cause' today at Macy's in benefit for ValleyCare

25% discount passes now available for Aug. 23 charitable event

Macy's and ValleyCare Health System's charitable foundation are sponsoring their 9th annual national "Shop For A Cause" charity shopping event Saturday.

It's a unique one-day-only shopping event created to support local charities' fundraising efforts,

which has helped raise more than $44 million for charities across the country since 2006.

Pleasanton customers can participate by purchasing shopping passes from the ValleyCare Charitable Foundation now.

"Macy's is committed to giving back, both nationally and to our local communities," said Martine Reardon, Macy's chief marketing officer. "For the last eight years, Macy's 'Shop For A Cause' program has provided our customers and associates a unique opportunity to show their support and give back to their local community organizations, while also enjoying great savings at Macy's."

Macy's has provided ValleyCare with shopping passes to sell for $5 each. The ValleyCare Charitable Foundation will keep 100% of every shopping pass it sells.

By purchasing a shopping pass from ValleyCare, customers support their local hospital while

enjoying a day of spectacular discounts, entertainment and special events at Macy's.

Pass holders will receive up to a 25% discount on most regular, sale and clearance purchases and 10% off on mattresses, electronics and area rugs all day on Aug. 23.

Passes may be purchased at ValleyCare Medical Center Gift Shop, 5555 W. Las Positas Blvd., the Pleasanton and Livermore Chambers of Commerce and the ValleyCare Charitable Foundation, 1111 E. Stanley Blvd.

The passes also can be purchased at Hairlights Salon, 4307 Valley Ave. and Zen Pilates and Fitness, 3059 Hopyard Rd., both in Pleasanton.

Well, I don't want to be too much of a wet blanket, but, instead of more shopping, wouldn't you make more of a difference just sending the money you would otherwise have spent on more stuff, all of it, to the charity of your choice?
