Stoneridge patrons were shopping for more than just clothing and housewares this weekend.
Stoneridge Mall was one of 10 Tri-Valley locations to participate in Maddie's Adoption Days Saturday and Sunday. Several local shelters participated, including Valley Humane Society and Tri-Valley Animal Rescue (TVAR).
The event is the fifth for Maddie's Fund, and the fourth locally. Maddie's Fund is a family foundation endowed by the founder of Workday and PeopleSoft, Dave Duffield, and his wife, Cheryl. The goal is to "achieve and sustain a no-kill nation by providing solutions to the most challenging issues facing the animal welfare community through the combined efforts of Maddie's Grant Giving, Maddie's Center (hands-on animal care), and Maddie's Institute (research and education."
Maddie's Fund has earmarked $10 million as a way to give back to the participating organizations, donating up to $2,000 per adopted dog or cat. The goal of the event is to find loving homes for 10,000 homeless dogs and cats over the weekend by waiving all adoption fees for the public.
