A California Highway Patrol officer was injured Monday when he was hit by a car on I-580 in Pleasanton.
CHP Officer Steve Creel said the officer was driving east on I-580 near the exit for Foothill
and San Ramon roads at 3:43 p.m. when the crash happened.
A 26-year-old man from Pleasanton driving a 2003 BMW at about 30-35 mph suddenly changed lanes as traffic slowed, hitting the officer with his right door.
The motorcyclist, a 9-year veteran of the CHP working out of the Castro Valley office, was thrown to the ground. The 38-year-old officer was rushed to a hospital but suffered only minor injuries, such as scrapes and bruises.
The driver of the BMW stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. He had not been cited for the collision as of Monday afternoon, Creel said.
The CHP is continuing to investigate the collision.
Neither the injured officer nor the driver of the BMW was identified by the CHP.
